Moving to a Seniors Living Community

You've made the decision to move to a lovely new home - a retirement community. You'll make new friends, enjoy the many services and amenities and have peace of mind. But first you need to downsize from your house or large condominium. For many this can be a stressful experience. Here is a step by step guide to help you transition from your current home to your new one.

Dementia Care

As a spouse, family member or friend, bringing joy and care to a loved one with dementia is a rewarding but sometimes challenging journey. An inspirational source of suggestions and recommendations, Jolene Brackey's provides resources and suggestions for rejeuvenating spirits and empowering people to 'make a difference in the way we care for adults'. Visit Jolene's site or speak with a Baptist Housing Team Member who will recommend additional support materials and resources.

Advanced Care Planning

When you plan ahead, you have a voice in your future health care decisions. The Province of British Columbia working in partnership with each Health Authority has created a new guide, called My Voice, to assist individuals in their personal advanced care planning. For more information or to download your personal copy of the guide and workbook, visit My Voice Resources or call HealthLinkBC at 8-1-1.

Selecting a Residential Care Community

B.C.'s Ministry of Health has published a small booklet on making choices about residential care. The booklet includes everything from which services are included in residential care, where care communities are located and how to choose the facility that will best meet the care needs of you or a loved one.  Download a complete copy of the 2013 guide here: Planning for Your Care Needs: Help in Selecting a Residential Care Facility.
