Brown Community Opening and Dedication in Kelowna

June 11, 2015 I The dining room was packed as Residents, families, Team Members, and special representatives gathered to celebrate the dedication of the new "Brown Community" at Village at Smith Creek in Kelowna. Twenty three Assisted Living and Independent Living suites were opened in partnership with BC Housing and Interior Health. Attendees included 15 members of the John Brown family whom the Community was named after; there were four generations in attendance.

Opening remarks were given by Karen Wasden, Campus Manager at Village at Smith Creek, followed by greeting from Premier Christy Clark by her constituency assistant. Howard Johnson and Charlie Nishi, Baptist Housing CEO and Board Chair, gave speeches to round out the ceremony. Cake and fruit were offered as well as tours of the new building. A great time was had by all!

One of the Brown family members commented: "We are very proud that the new residence is called the Brown Community, and thought it was quite wonderful that this building has been dedicated in June - the same month that Washington and Kathleen Brown came to Westbank - just 106 years ago. We will be back to visit from time to time; my siblings and I are huge supporters of Village at Smith Creek."

We are looking forward to playing a continual role in this legacy of excellent senior care in Kelowna.
