Baptist Housing is looking for a Full-Time Activities Assistant to join our team in Abbotsford. The Activities Assistant assists in planning, implementing and evaluating recreational wellness programs for the Assisted Living and Independent Living Residents at our Hallmark on the Park and Hallmark on the Lake Residences. Activities are developed for each group of Residents to meet individual needs, promote community and help our Residents experience life well. Our Activities team is FUN, positive, outgoing and collaborative, modelling our values as they build relationships in our community.

Responsibilities include assisting Residents to make a comfortable transition to the community; conducting and participating in programs and activities; observing, assessing and documenting Resident needs and interests; and driving the Baptist Housing bus when transporting Residents to external activities.

The Activities Assistant has exceptional interpersonal skills, the ability to develop relationships, and creates an environment that fosters community.  Proven skills in planning, implementing and assessing programs; observing and assessing Residents; teaching and leading individuals and groups are all required.  You must have well developed organization and time management skills necessary to establish priorities and organize workload.

  • Has proven skill in planning, implementing, and assessing the effectiveness of activities, events and programs
  • Has exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to establish and maintain relationships with Team Members, Residents, families, Volunteers and external agencies
  • Has skill in leading and teaching individuals and groups
  • Has well developed organization skills
  • Has time management skill necessary to establish priorities and organize workload
  • Has a working knowledge of computers and software for email communication, internet use, electronic filing and reporting
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and in collaboration with a team
  • Ability to vary hours, and days of work to carry out the duties of the job
  • Must be in good health, physically and mentally able to carry out the assigned duties in the working environment

Qualifications

Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English; verbally and written.

  • One year of related experience in implementing activity programs for seniors or event planning.
  • You must have an unrestricted class 4 drivers’ license and a clear driver abstract, or be willing to obtain this.
  • Current certification in first aid or willing to obtain.
  • Current Food Safe certification or willing to obtain.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • As an Activity Assistant you should have the ability to lift 35lbs.

This is a permanent full-time position (32-40 hours /week) with some flexibility of hours and days and some required flexibility to work around special events.
