The Heights at Mt. View is a 7-storey, 260-suite residence located in Saanich, BC. As a complex care residence, The Heights at Mt. View offers 24/7 Long-Term Care in Victoria. With a design that exceeds operational requirements, this residence is inspired by the individuals who call the community home. This innovative project is part of a regional plan and partnership with the Province of British Columbia, the Vancouver Island Health Authority, the Capital Regional Hospital District and Baptist Housing to replace obsolete long-term care facilities in the Capital Region, and provide more care and housing options for the growing senior population.. 


Job Summary  

The Recreation Therapy Manager is responsible for conducting assessments and providing interventions, using Recreation Therapy Standards of Practice, designed to meet Residents' individual needs and abilities to maintain and improve their level of social and leisure function. The Recreation Therapy Manager coordinates recreation programs by providing work direction to assigned Team Members and volunteers. The Recreation Therapy Manager creates a safe and empowering environment that promotes a person-centered Wellness Model of Care and supports and respects the autonomy, independence, dignity and privacy of Residents, family members, volunteers and Team Members. The Manager is a role model for the team in the effort to normalize and enhance the lives of Residents. 


  • Maintains professional relationships and communication with Residents, family members, 

  • Team Members and others 

  • Supports the Wellness Model of Care and the maintenance of normalized living for Residents 

  • Conducts initial and ongoing Recreation Assessments 

  • Plans, implements, coordinates and evaluates recreation programs based on the specific needs 

  • of the communities 

  • Develops and maintains recreation therapy program plans and monthly calendars 

  • Implements functional interventions, leisure education; and recreation participation programs 

  • based on Resident assessment goals 

  • Completes Resident charting, Recreation sections on the lnterRai MDS, documentation for 

  • Resident Care Conferences, and Living Care Plans 


  • Consent for a Criminal Record Check (CRC) for working with Vulnerable Adults 

  • Ability to provide COVID-19 Vaccination status 

  • Ability to provide proof of a negative TB test received in BC

  • A minimum of two years of experience as a Recreation Therapist in a Residential Care Environment 

  • A minimum of one year of experience supervising and managing the performance of Team Members, or an equivalent combination of education and experience 

  • Membership in the British Columbia Therapeutic Recreation Association 

  • Degree in Therapeutic Recreation 

  • Class 4 Driver's License, unrestricted with clear drivers abstract
