Recreation Therapy Manager
The Recreation Therapy Manager is responsible for conducting assessments and providing interventions, using Recreation Therapy Standards of Practice, designed to meet Residents’ individual needs and abilities in order to maintain and improve their level of social and leisure function. The Recreation Therapy Manager coordinates recreation programs by providing work direction to assigned Team Members and volunteers.
RESPONSIBLITIES INCLUDE:
Program Leadership
· Maintains professional relationships and communication with Residents, family members, Team Members and others
· Supports the Wellness Model of Care and the maintenance of normalized living for Residents
· Conducts initial and ongoing Recreation Assessments
· Plans, implements, coordinates and evaluates recreation programs based on the specific needs of the communities
· Develops and maintains recreation therapy program plans and monthly calendars
· Implements functional interventions, leisure education, and recreation participation programs based on Resident assessment goals
· Completes Resident charting, Recreation sections on the InterRai MDS, documentation for Resident Care Conferences, and Living Care Plans
· Consults and collaborates with the interdisciplinary team and service providers regarding Resident care needs to ensure that interventions are integrated and coordinated to provide exceptional care and wellness for the Resident
· Compiles, maintains and interprets attendance and other statistics to provide insight into Resident needs and establish and review continuous quality improvement initiatives
· Recruits, interviews, selects, orients, trains and retains volunteers in alignment with the Baptist Housing Volunteer Program
· In collaboration with the Volunteer Coordinator, plans and implements special volunteer recognition events
· Provides opportunity for Residents to access the community through recreation outings and by liaising with community groups such as churches, schools and cultural organizations
· Provides intergenerational and pet therapy programs
· Develops and distributes a Residents’ Newsletter and Family newsletter showcasing events, photographs, stories, etc.
· Ensures daily upkeep of the Recreation Rooms and storage area, and works with the Recreation team to enhance the environment through seasonal and special event decorating in the communities
· Purchases and maintains supplies, equipment and resources related to program service provision and the General Store, and records budget spending
· Submits monthly Dietary Request function sheets to the dietary service partner
· Provides on call support to the communities by carrying the on-call cell phone on a rotational basis
Team Leadership
· Participates in the selection and hiring process of Recreation Team Members
· Provides vision and motivation to Team Members to achieve personal and organizational goals which advance our vision and mission
· Conducts probationary and annual performance appraisals of assigned Team Members
· Develops Team Members by providing feedback, leadership, teaching, coaching, mentoring and support
· Monitors and manages the attendance of Team Members, including approval of leaves in relation to operational requirements and approval of time cards for payroll
· Ensures Team Members have opportunities to pursue and receive appropriate professional development
· Establishes, influences and supports a culture of health and safety
Labour Relations
· Collaborates with Human Resources in hiring and maintaining an adequate number of team members to ensure sufficient resident support and programming
· Conducts progressive discipline including terminations in consultation with the Administrator and Human Resources Manager
· Collaborates with Human Resources regarding interpretation and implementation of Collective Agreement requirements
· Participates in the grievance process in collaboration with the Administrator and Human Resources
· Attends Labour Relations meetings
Reporting
· Provides monthly reports as required to Administrator and head office.
Networking and Relationships
· Fosters and maintains positive, collaborative relationships with clinical and management teams, Residents and family members, partners, physicians, other health professionals and community agencies
· Participates in investigations of Team Member injuries and workplace inspections
· The Recreation Therapy Manager is part of the Evergreen Leadership Team. As such, he/she is on a rotating schedule as Manager on Call for after hour and weekend emergencies.
· Other duties as assigned and as reflective of individual strengths.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education
· Degree in Therapeutic Recreation
· Membership in the British Columbia Therapeutic Recreation Association
· Class 4 Drivers’ License, unrestricted with clear drivers abstract
Experience
· A minimum of 2 years of experience as a Recreation Therapist in a Residential Care environment
· A minimum of one year of experience supervising and managing the performance of Team Members, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
