Recreation Coordinator

Inglewood Care Centre- a Baptist Housing Community in West Vancouver, is looking for a Recreation Coordinator to join our Team and serve our Residents.

The Inglewood Care Centre is our newest community with an exciting new plan for redevelopment and expansion. Reporting to the Director of Care, the Recreation Coordinator provides assessments, interventions and Recreation Therapy Standards of Practice related to specific Residents which are designed to meet their individual needs and abilities in order to maintain and improve their level of social and leisure function.  The Recreation Coordinator organizes recreation programs for the Long-Term Care Residents by providing leadership and direction to assigned Team Members and volunteers.

The Recreation Coordinator will work and think differently to create a safe and empowering environment that will support and respect the autonomy, independence, dignity and privacy of the campus Residents, family members, volunteers and Team Members.  The Recreation Coordinator values learning, embraces innovative changes and promotes safety and wellness using a person-centered approach.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Recreation Therapist diploma / degree
  • Eligibility for membership in the British Columbia Therapeutic Recreation Association
  • A minimum of two years’ experience in a Recreation Therapy role

Skills and Competencies

  • Knowledge of Therapeutic Recreation and ability to consult and support other disciplines and service providers to ensure the integrated
  • Must be in good health, physically and mentally able to carry out the assigned duties in the working environment
  • Well-developed organization skills
  • Manages time, workload and conflicting priorities effectively and efficiently
  • Flexibility and ability to adapt to changing priorities
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with Team Members, Residents, family members, etc.
  • Able to work effectively, both independently with a high level of autonomy and in collaboration with a team
  • Able to exercise professional judgment, diplomacy and tact when managing daily issues
  • Able to resolve conflict and preserve relationships in alignment with our values
  • Able to think critically to solve problems effectively
  • Interest / love for Seniors
