The Vancouver Courier and St. Paul's Foundation are partnering to produce the annual Lifetime Seniors Talks + Tables event, which takes place at VanDusen Botanical Garden Sept. 20 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Highlights of the day include Dialogue on Aging -- a public presentation series with informative speakers, tables offering information on supports and services, and interesting demonstrations.

Once upon a time at The Heights

In June 2017 the Times Colonist showcased a unique phenomenon in Sidney, BC. A baby hawk was adopted by a mother eagle and raised alongside the eaglets. Our Blanshard Writers Guild, located at the Heights at Mt. View, followed the story and used it as a platform to write a children's storybook titled The Unusual Case of Sasha Hawk.

Betty's Gluten Free Cookie Recipe

I saw a great photo of Resident Betty about to lick the spoon from the cookie dough. Betty is Celiac, along with another Resident at the Heights at Mt. View, and so Marianne from Activities decided to make Gluten free chocolate, peanut butter, oatmeal cookies. Who wouldn't want to lick the spoon!

They took some of the cookies down to the kitchen, and Ray, who happens to also be gluten free, loved the cookies so much he asked for the recipe so he could start making them for our Residents with special diets. How tasty is that?!?

How long have you been involved with this art process at Baptist Housing?

This is my first time doing watercolour painting but I have been involved with various types of art for most of my adult life. I have done a bit of Acrylic painting, stained glass, some commissions in stained glass, knitting and crochet, Bunka (needle work with silk), making beaded jewelry and I also played the accordion at a very young age.

In the coming weeks we look forward to getting to know each other more as we work through the transition of joining our ministries.

Team Donation to #BCFires

Many of us know friends and extended family who have been impacted by BC's wild fires. It's been encouraging to hear of the support from across the province in providing financial support and temporary shelter to those displaced from their homes and businesses. On behalf of our Team, Baptist Housing has made a $5,000 donation to the Canadian Red Cross to support those directly impacted by the wild fires.
