About The Role

*This is a 15-hour-a-week position in our Victoria long-term care community, The Heights at. Mt. View. 

As a Chaplain at Baptist Housing, you'll serve as an ambassador by embodying our ministry values and demonstrating servant leadership, catering to the needs of residents, team members, families, partners, and spiritual care volunteers. In complex residential care settings, you'll conduct spiritual assessments, collaborate with the interdisciplinary team, and participate in care conferences, ensuring residents' spiritual well-being aligns with their personal values. Additionally, you'll facilitate various spiritual activities, provide counselling for residents and families, and offer support to team members in addressing their spiritual needs. Networking with local resources and maintaining documentation for spiritual care services are also integral aspects of the role, contributing to a culture of health, safety, and holistic care. 

Requirements

  • A graduate degree in theology (e.g., M.A., M.C.S., M.Div.) or a minimum of a bible or ministry degree from an evangelical bible school 

  • Graduation from an accepted Clinical Pastoral Education course or training in Professional Chaplaincy is preferred. 

  • Three to five years’ experience ministering to the unique needs of seniors.  Consideration will be given to life experience and personal learning. 

  • You affirm and demonstrate that your doctrinal position agrees with Baptist Housing’s Statement of Faith. 

  • Endorsement from the Fellowship of Evangelical Baptist Churches in BC and Yukon 

  • Current certification in Emergency First Aid: Community Care

You excel at developing and enhancing chaplaincy services, seamlessly integrating the ministry of spiritual care volunteers. As a comforting and familiar presence, you navigate through the lives of residents and team members, offering solace and support in times of need. Your genuine affection for the elderly, coupled with a deep understanding of geriatrics and senior concerns, enables you to provide tailored spiritual guidance that aligns with their overall wellness. Your adeptness in crisis counselling and your ability to communicate faith issues with clarity and sensitivity from a biblical perspective without imposing beliefs reflect your commitment to respecting individual autonomy. Alongside your excellent communication skills and aptitude for relationship-building, you thrive in collaborative environments, valuing teamwork and continuous learning. Your self-motivation and adaptability allow you to work independently and flexibly, while your sense of humour adds warmth and positivity to interactions. Proficient in utilizing technology for communication and documentation, you ensure efficient and effective service delivery in today's digital age.

Compensation & Benefits

An hourly wage of $35.69 with employer-paid extended health and dental coverage, paid vacation, RRSP matching, and support for professional development.
