In the role of Maintenance Assistant, you'll provide preventative maintenance, emergency repairs, and a timely response to routine maintenance and repair requests for buildings, grounds, and equipment.

About The Role

This is a Tuesday-Saturday 8 am – 4 pm work schedule.

  • Performs maintenance tasks, including:

    • Installing, maintaining, and repairing furniture, cupboards, countertops, walls, floors, ceilings, and windows

    • Applying paint and other finishes

    • Repairing plumbing fixtures such as sinks, toilets, and water supply lines.

    • Identifying and repairing equipment malfunctions, including electrical and mechanical equipment

    • Conducting electrical installation and repairs in compliance with codes and regulations

    • Performing preventative maintenance on equipment and recommending repairs or purchases as needed.

    • Providing grounds maintenance, such as power washing and repairing irrigation systems

  • Ensures timely resolution of maintenance concerns.

  • Monitors stock of repair parts, tools, and supplies and notifies the maintenance manager of purchasing needs.

  • Maintains cleanliness and organization of maintenance work and storage areas.

  • Conducts periodic inspections as directed.

  • Maintains records of all repairs and maintenance completed.

  • Takes responsibility for personal and professional development.

  • Attends conferences and seminars to promote and maintain professional growth.

  • Establishes, influences, and supports a culture of health and safety.

  • Demonstrates safe working practices and encourages team members to do the same.

  • Identifies and corrects hazards and unsafe work practices or reports them to a supervisor.

  • Performs other duties as assigned, leveraging individual strengths.

Requirements

  • Minimum of two years related experience in building and systems maintenance or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

  • Knowledgeable in maintenance best practices

  • Proficient in using tools and performing tasks for building and systems maintenance.

  • Working knowledge of computers and software for communication and word processing

  • Must be physically capable of performing job duties in the working environment.

Compensation and Benefits

A wage of $26.31 per hour with a benefits package outlined by the HEU Collective Agreement.
