Residence

Marrion Village is an Assisted Living and subsidized Senior Housing community in Victoria, perfectly situated in the desirable neighborhood of Oak Bay. The renovated apartments are bright and spacious, and close to many shops, services and activities.

Job Summary

This is a Full-Time, temporary position that works Wednesday to Sunday from 11:00 am to 7 pm.

The Resident Porter Assistant is responsible for performing and assisting with visitation, direct and indirect Resident care and activities. The Resident Assistant utilizes the assessment, planning and evaluation from the Resident care plan as a framework for performance. As a member of a multidisciplinary team, the Resident Assistant demonstrates a commitment to service excellence, continuous quality improvement, the Wellness Model for person centered care, and the Mission, Vision and Values of Baptist Housing.

Responsibilities

Fosters and maintains positive, collaborative relationships with Residents, Team Members, Families and Partners

 • Assists with visitations; preparing and transfers of Residents to visitation space; welcomes the Resident and Designated Visitor and assists the Residents needs during the visitation. Assists Residents to maintain independence within their capabilities

• Provides personal care to Residents, directing and assisting with activities of daily living such as hydration, bathing, toileting, bowel and bladder care, dressing and personal hygiene while considering dignity, individuality and privacy needs

• Implements the individualized care plan for each Resident, checking daily for updates.

• Performs procedures as dictated by the Personal Assistance Guidelines (PAGs).

• Performs delegated tasks (DOTs) for which transfer of function training has been completed, such as catheter care, suppositories, applying non-sterile dressings and implementing and maintaining exercise and mobilization routines

• Administers medication and any other delegated tasks under the direction of the Nurse, and records administration.

• Maintains updated clinical records for Residents, within the Resident Aide scope of practice, including procedures and observations in the Resident’s chart and other record sheets

• Transports Residents utilizing mechanical aids such as wheelchairs

• Assists with Resident meals by delivering and collecting meal trays, helping with making and pouring beverages, serving food items and clearing tables, and sets the tables during the shift.

• Launders Residents’ personal clothing as directed in the care plan, including washing, drying, folding and putting away.

• Accompanies Residents to activities and provides assistance as required

• Implements and participates in quality and care improvement programs, such as SAIL, when directed by the Manager

• Observes Residents and reports any concerns or changes in appetite or food preferences, behavior, and physical or cognitive ability to the nurse in a timely manner

• Participates in care planning and multidisciplinary team meetings by providing input about the Residents’ progress and needs

• Keeps current on general team communication by reading ADL sheets, communication books and staff meeting minutes

• Performs clerical duties such as typing, answering telephones and assembling, maintaining and disassembling Residents’ charts as directed.

Qualifications

  • Grade Twelve graduation
  • Graduation from a recognized Resident Assistant Program
  • Post-Secondary Medication Administration course preferred
  • Current Food Safe certification
  • Current WHMIS certification
  • Current Emergency First Aid certification
  • Current registration in good standing with the BC Assistant Registry Experience
  • Three years of experience providing care to seniors or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
  • Consent for a Criminal Record Check (CRC) for working with Vulnerable Adults
