Curious About Senior Housing Options?

News

Have you had enough of yardwork, cooking and cleaning? Are you ready to give up the “to-do” list? Do you find yourself wanting to go out less and stay home? If you said “yes” to any of the above questions, it may be time to look into retirement housing options. Fortunately, there are different types of housing that are designed to meet your unique desires and needs.

In British Columbia, there are three types of senior housing communities: Independent Living, Assisted Living and Long-Term Care. A question that is often asked is, “What are the differences between the types of senior housing?” To help you understand the options, here are some brief explanations, with links to more information.

Independent Living offers an all-inclusive lifestyle in a senior living community. It is a combination of housing with supportive services such as housekeeping, meals, transportation and 24 hour emergency response. This type of community is ideal for those who want to continue to live well and be active in a supportive community that provides freedom, security and peace of mind.

Assisted Living is for seniors who enjoy independent living, but who need some extra assistance with mobility, personal care or medications. The level of care in Assisted Living is usually higher than the supportive services in Independent Living.

Long-Term Care, also known as “Long-Term Care”, provides housing and 24-hour professional nursing care for seniors unable to live independently. The level and type of care provided to the Residents is designed to meet their individual needs.

Moving to a seniors community can seem overwhelming at first. However, be assured! Once you find the right place for you or your loved one, it is well-worth all the effort and change.
