Get to know Kevin

We’re excited to welcome Kevin Unger as our new Executive Vice President of Finance and Chief Financial Officer at Baptist Housing. With a diverse background that spans real estate development, film, travel, and higher education, Kevin brings both a depth of experience and a genuine passion for purpose-driven work.
“What attracted me to Baptist Housing was the mission: ‘compelled by the values of Jesus…’ Those words stayed with me,” Kevin shares. “I was also struck by the strong sense of team and camaraderie. But more than anything, I’m drawn to the impact our work can have on residents. I love that through the decisions we make in administration, we can demonstrably and meaningfully improve the lives of seniors.”
Although Kevin says he “grew up” professionally in operations within real estate development and management, it was the realization that “the language of business is numbers” that led him to finance. Over the years, he’s developed a sharp eye for strategy and a heart for mission, making him a natural fit for our team. He describes his leadership style as engaging, curious, warm, and always with a dose of fun. That energy is already shaping how he’s stepping into the CFO role. His early focus is on listening and learning about our people, our communities, and our mission, while supporting the finance team with efficient and scalable systems.
Kevin believes that in a mission-focused organization, every financial strategy should connect back to purpose. “We need to prepare ourselves through structure, process, and strong financial stewardship so we’re ready when opportunities and needs arise,” he says. “I love automation and building efficient systems, but never at the expense of the human element.”
Looking ahead, Kevin is clear-eyed about the future. “The wave of demand in seniors housing and care isn’t coming, it’s already here. That’s a huge challenge, but also a huge opportunity.” What excites him most, though, is getting to know the team and playing a part in bringing Baptist Housing’s mission to life. “There’s something truly special about being able to help our residents experience life well.” Drawing on his experience in film, Kevin sees his role much like that of an executive producer—someone who keeps the vision in focus, gathers the right people, and helps translate big ideas into meaningful results.
When he’s not working, Kevin and his family love to travel. He’s an avid reader, enjoys finding quirky restaurants, and is happiest near the ocean. His personal philosophy is rooted in momentum, diligence, and faith: “Momentum is everything. Pay attention to the details and deliver more than what’s expected. Without tenacity, passion is meaningless. And Jesus is our shareholder.”
Welcome to the team, Kevin. We’re so glad you’re here.
