Baptist Housing Values: Honesty

News

At Baptist Housing, we have 6 values which correspond to the acronym CHRIST. These 6 are Compassion, Honesty, Respect, Innovation, Stewardship and Teamwork. We also have the added 7th value of Fun – an essential aspect of our ministry which reminds us to take our work seriously, but not ourselves. As Servant Leaders, we are focused on serving others in humility and grace while demonstrating the character behind each value. In this blog series, we’d like to reflect on each value and invite you to learn about who we are as an organization.

Value 2: Honesty

In Baptist Housing’s values statement, you’ll find this definition for honesty: “Exemplifying fairness, integrity and ethical behavior.”

Honesty is important for our organization, because it is a promise to ourselves and to our Residents, families, Team Members and partners.

By committing to honesty, we recognize that we have a high calling as an organization to do the best work possible – exemplifying fairness in the manner in which we go about seeking contracts, practicing integrity as we treat our Residents with the best practices we know of, and demonstrating ethical behavior as we seek to be a great employer for our Team Members. By being honest with ourselves, we recognize that we have both strengths and areas where we can grow. Honesty means that we don’t cast a blind eye to anything, but that we choose to look at both our strengths and weaknesses, and commit to growing with integrity.

These words from clergyman James E. Faust shed more light on the value of honesty. He says “We all need to know what it means to be honest. Honesty is more than not lying. It is truth telling, truth speaking, truth living, and truth loving.” In terms of others, having honesty as a value consequently means that our Residents, Team Members and partners can expect that they will not only be treated fairly and justly, but that they are also safe, and exposed to the best possible care and partnership.

We extend ourselves into relationships with the promise of our honest best. Choosing honesty as a value means that we have chosen a high standard, and that we can assure all who are involved in our mission that we care deeply for ourselves and you.
